The Gay and Lesbian Equality network is welcoming moves to lift the ban on gay men donating blood.
It is reported today the Blood Transfusion Service will announce the plans at their conference later this week.
It follows a study from the body last year which said the measure is a desirable social objective.
Kieran Rose Co-Chair of GLEN has said it marks a recognition of modern science: “It’s important to remember that the total ban on gay men donating blood dates back to the 1980’s and science and research has moved on in a major way since then.
“So, we very much welcome these moves towards re-examining the protocols.”
