Luas drivers have called off their planned 48-hour strike for this weekend.

Siptu said the decision was made to “create space” for talks between ticket inspectors and control room staff who are due to meet Transdev management for talks on pay and conditions tomorrow.

Siptu is also seeking a meeting with Acting Minister for Transport Paschal Donohoe.

Update 4.22pm: Transdev, the company which operates the Luas service, confirmed the move in a statement.

“Transdev received notification from SIPTU this afternoon, Monday 18th April 2016, advising the company of the cancellation of this weekends’ 48 hour Work Stoppage,” the statement read.

“Transdev welcome the cancellation of this weekends’ strike.

“Transdev will write to SIPTU to see is there a basis for renewed talks between the Driver Grade and the company.

“Transdev will meet tomorrow with the Traffic Supervisor and Revenue Protection Officer and Supervisor Grades for local talks regarding the 10% proposal the company submitted to staff last week and ways to find a lasting resolution to this ongoing dispute.”
