Police in the North are appealing for two people believed to have information about the murder of a taxi driver in Belfast.

Detectives say two masked men called to the home of Michael McGibbon on Thursday, and threatened to return when he refused to leave his home in the Ardoyne area of the city.

The 33-year-old father of four was gunned down on Friday night and police are now appealing for the pair to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector John McVea says the motive for the killing still is not clear.

He said: “At this stage of the inquiry, it is still too early to understand why Michael was in that alleyway at that time.

“Certainly, for whatever reason he was there does not justify anybody murdering Michael in this manner.”
