A man is critically ill after being shot twice in the leg in Derry.

The paramilitary-style attack happened in Magowan Park in the Creggan area of Derry.

PSNI Inspector Alison Ferguson said: “His condition is described as critical.”

Detectives are appealing for witnesses following the shooting shortly before 9pm on Monday night.

The man, who is in his 20s, was shot twice in the right leg and taken to hospital.

The attack comes after another man died in a gangland-style shooting in North Belfast last week.

Dissident republicans are likely to be suspected.
