Move over Kim Kardashian – there’s a new Internet-breaker in town.
Last night’s tweet from Conor McGregor announcing his retirement was retweeted more times than when basketball superstar Kobe Bryant announced his retirement or when Xabi Alonso marked Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard’s retirement.
I have decided to retire young.

Thanks for the cheese.
Catch ya's later.
Since the announcement there have been over 310,000 and counting mentions of Conor McGregor on Twitter.
More than 1000 Tweets were sent per minute in the moments after the tweet was posted.
Naturally there was an overwhelming reaction in Ireland.
Can people please stop calling 999 asking if Conor McGregor has retired.

Alternatively, @TheNotoriousMMA is welcome to come work for us at Power Tower. He could live-tweet #UFC200 for us...

But the activity wasn’t all on Twitter.
