Leinster will be without Fergus McFadden for the rest of the season, unless they reach the Guinness Pro12 final.

The winger has been handed a three-week ban after being found guilty of a dangerously-high tackle on Edinburgh’s Damien Hoyland during last Friday’s game at the RDS.

The incident was reviewed on the pitch by the referee at the time, but was later referred to the citing committee.

That committee ruled that McFadden should be given an initial two-week ban, before adding a further week as a “deterrence to combat a pattern of offending”.

Unless he chooses to appeal, McFadden will be unable to return to action until Monday, May 23.
