A Dublin man accused of murdering his wife’s son will find out today if his application to adjourn next week’s trial has been successful.

David Mahon of Ongar Village in Clonsilla wants the adjournment so that he can have a hip replacement.

Twenty-three-year-old Dean Fitzpatrick was stabbed to death in an apartment in Dublin on May 26, 2013.

David Mahon (pictured), who married his long-term partner and Dean’s mother Audrey last year, has been charged with his murder.

A jury is due to be sworn in on Monday but the 44-year-old has applied to have his trial adjourned.

Earlier this week, Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy heard he had two hip replacements and one of them “hasn’t taken”.

The judge said he would need a sworn affidavit from Mr Mahon’s consultant surgeon regarding the “urgency” of the operation before he would consider adjourning the trial.

That is expected to be presented to the court for consideration this morning.
