The funeral mass of the innocent man killed as a result of the recent gangland feud in Dublin has heard that he was a proud young Traveller man who loved his culture.

Fr Derek Farrell told mourners at St Michan’s Church in the capital that Martin O’Rourke had been callously and brutally robbed of everything.

The priest said the 24-year-old had been a devoted fiancé to his partner Angeline and a loving father to his three young children.

In his homily today he said Mr O Rourke had been due to start a drug rehabilitation course and was planning on starting work, ahead of the birth of his fourth child.

The acting Taoiseach Enda Kenny attended today’s funeral mass.

O’Rourke was shot dead last Thursday outside Noctor’s pub on Sheriff Street.

Gardaí believe an associate of a local Hutch drug gang had been the intended target for the shooting and that father-of-three Mr O’Rourke was killed in a case of mistaken identity.

It is understood Mr O’Rourke had been wearing a jacket of similar design to the intended target’s.

Almost €2,000 has been raised by locals to help pay for his funeral. Any funds left over will be put towards a headstone and a trust fund for his children.
