Acting Minister for Public Reform Brendan Howlin has said that Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin discuss a coalition, as they have similar positions on Irish Water.

The possibility of suspending the fees and the setting up of a commission to assess the utility are being discussed as talks between Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil are set to resume this morning

Brendan Howlin said that a Fianna Fáil – Fine Gael minority Government is the most realistic option, but there are two more possibilities.

“It seems as if Fianna Fáil is moving closer to the Sinn Féin position on Irish Water, so maybe if Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin exercise that mandate, that would be close to a majority as well,” he said.

“Or, if that’s not possible, well then ask the people to elect people into the Dáil who are willing to take on the responsibility of Government.”
