Update 4.30pm: In the wake of an announcement today that the Department of Education is accepting applications for the patronage of nine new secondary schools, Educate Togather said it was “delighted” the patronage process was now open for these schools.
Educate Together has said it is gathering expressions of interest from parents in the following areas: Limerick City and Environs (South West), Malahide/Portmarnock, Co. Dublin, Portlaoise and Swords, Co. Dublin to open in 2017; Limerick City and Environs (East), Dublin South City Centre and Firhouse, Dublin 24 to open in 2018.
New schools programme manager for Educate Together Amy Mulvihill said: “These second-level schools are a much-needed addition to the educational stock in Ireland and could be the answer to the quandary in which many parents find themselves when choosing a second-level school for their child.”
She added: “In addition to these new schools there are parents clamouring in many other areas for an Educate Together second-level option. These areas include South Kildare, Galway and Cork City.”

The Minister for Education Jan O’Sullivan is inviting applications for the patronage of nine new post-primary schools which are due to open this September and in 2018.
Those due to open at the start of the next school year are:
Three more will open next year – in Limerick city east, Dublin south city centre (Dublin 2, 4, 6 and 8) and Firhouse, Dublin 24.
Minister O’Sullivan (pictured) said: “Parental demand is one of the key considerations in deciding on the patronage of these nine new post-primary schools.”
The patronage process for new schools is overseen by the New Schools Establishment Group (NSEG), set up in 2011 to advise the Minister on the patronage of new schools.
