Irish Water remains the major stumbling block for Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael as Government formation talks resume this morning.

The possibility of suspending water charges and the setting up of a commission are being discussed.

Acting Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney said that Fine Gael is anxious to conclude the talks.

“Water is one issue, but it’s not the biggest issue in most households actually,” he said.

“So we’re anxious to get on and put that Government together.

“We appreciate the fact that Fianna Fáil have said that they’re willing to facilitate that, because it’s a minority Government situation which is different, but we need to conclude these discussions before that can happen.”
