THE JESTFEST Comedy and Street Theatre Festival will kick off this coming Friday with an opening gala at the Comedy HUB on Wexford’s quay front, setting the tone for a weekend of laughs and entertainment.
Throughout the May Bank Holiday Weekend, Wexford will welcome some of the best Irish and international talent from comedy acts to street theatre artists who have performed worldwide.
Comedians will play at a number of venues around Wexford including the new HUB, Greenacres, Macken’s and the Vine Restaurant.
The Street Theatre Arena is free for everyone and offers excellent family entertainment with an amazing lineup of street theatre artists who will be showcasing their skills. The line-up includes local favourites Buí Bolg who present an exaggerated interpretation of reality through street theatre using visual arts; the Fanzini Brothers who bring street circus to life with their contemporary circus shows; Su’s Renegade Cabaret, who uses her circus skills through object manipulation and performance specialising in hula hoop and contact juggling, and the multi talented Jack Wise who is a magician, ventriloquist, pickpocket and sword swallower, one of only sixty sword swallowers in the world!
The street theatre shows will run daily from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
JestFest is holding a Celebrity Tug of War between the comedians, joined by some local celebrities and side splitting live commentary on Sunday at 3 p.m. Beat 102-103 will be broadcasting live from the Street Theatre Arena on the day from 12:50 p.m. to 3:50 p.m.
A vintage Carnival will set the theme over the weekend as Wexford’s quay will be a great attraction for people of all ages both young and old. The Teeny Tiny Theatre is sure to be a big hit as it is the smallest theatre in the world. It is completely free and will seat up to six people for special performances by the comedians. This is sure to be a full house every time so to avoid disappointment get down to the Street Theatre Arena early as spaces are limited.
JestFest will take place from Friday, April 29 to Monday, May 2. .
