Phil Healy is still reeling from the ‘crazy’ experience of becoming a global internet star.
The UCC nursing student was thrust into the limelight when a recording of her ‘from the depths of hell’ performance in a relay race went viral.
Healy began the anchor leg of the Women’s 4 x 400 metres relay final in fifth before going on to claim an astonishing win.
She spoke to John McHale at the Evening Echo Ladies Sportstar Awards about what life is like after you rack up millions of views online.
“It’s been a crazy week!”
Initial articles on Breakingnews.ie and Irishexaminer.com snowballed into a storm of global attention.
“It really took off, with a lot of interest from America,” Healy explained. “I got a phone call from the Washington Post and they did an article about the race.
“2FM, Newstalk, RedFm – they were all in touch. It’s crazy, I’m blown away by all the coverage.
“People saying ‘you’re an inspiration’! There’s messages coming in and I’ve no idea who these people are but it’s great!”
