The five TDs in Dublin South West are calling for the release of Ibrahim Halawa.

The Firhouse man was 17 when he was arrested for taking part in a protest in Cairo.

He has spent almost three years behind bars without trial and his case has been adjourned 13 times.

Organisations including Amnesty International, the Law Society of Ireland and London-based human rights group Reprieve have all raised concerns about his continued detention.

The five deputies in Ibrahim Halawa’s constituency – Colm Brophy of Fine Gael, Sinn Féin’s Sean Crowe, John Lahart from Fianna Fáil, Paul Murphy of the Anti-Austerity Alliance and Independent TD Katherine Zappone – want the Dáil to follow the example of the European parliament and pass a cross-party motion of support seeking his release.
