Update 11am:

There is no sign of an end to the Luas pay dispute – as drivers continue to mount pickets today.

Tens of thousands of commuters have been discommoded as a result of another strike on the tram service.

Drivers are taking the action in support of a pay claim of over 20%- despite their colleagues accepting a 13 % pay offer earlier this week.

And the company that operates the Luas – Transdev, is threatening to dock the drivers pay from tomorrow, if there’s no resolution.

Update 7am:

The Luas tram service in Dublin is being hit by another strike today.

Drivers are taking the action in support of a pay claim of over 20%.

No trams will operate over the next 24 hours – which is expected to increase pressure on other public transport services in the city.

Gerry Madden of Luas operator Transdev is urging the drivers to follow the example of other Luas staff- who have accepted a pay rise of 13%: “There are two roads now we have effectively been doing this for quite a while.

“One road is to look at a sensible pay claim in line with your colleagues, what they have already accepted.

“It is the maximum that we can afford.

“Now there has always been this debate around what the drivers can actually bring to the table so there is potential to be open minded and reasonable if they can come and sell me something that I frankly want to buy.”
