A GRIM scene that was described by some as “a blood-bath” was what greeted walkers on the Promenade in Enniscorthy last Sunday morning. Fears were sparked after pools of blood were found at various points along the walkway and blood was also found smeared on lampposts in the area.
Gardaí were contacted at around 7 a.m. and were quick to arrive at the scene to carry out an investigation. As a precautionary measure, Slaney Search & Rescue were also called out and patrolled the river, in case somebody had become injured and entered the river.
After carrying out some enquiries, Gardaí were led to believe that the incident was one of self-harm and they located the man involved at a nearby apartment. The man, who is said to be local and aged in his forties, was immediately rushed to Wexford General Hospital where he received the treatment that he required and was said to be making a recovery.
A spokesman for Enniscorthy Gardaí said that, while the man had lost a significant amount of blood, the scene probably looked a lot worse than it actually was and it is hoped the man will make a full recovery.
