The jurors in David Mahon’s murder trial are due to be sent out at some stage today to begin their deliberations.

David Mahon admits holding the knife that caused Dean Fitzpatrick’s death in May 2013 but, claims his stepson walked into it during an argument.

The six men and six women of the jury heard from 21 witnesses during four days of evidence last week.

They heard about a confrontation at Dave Mahon’s apartment at Northern Cross in Dublin between him and Dean Fitzpatrick.

It is the prosecution’s case that this altercation led to Mr. Mahon stabbing his stepson with a large kitchen knife before fleeing the scene.

His defence claims Dean pulled the knife on him and later walked into it after he took it from him.

The prosecution has accused him of telling lie after lie to Gardai, while the defence accused them of using “hyperbole, hysteria and hypocrisy” in their “threadbare case”.

Ms. Justice Margaret Heneghan will summarise the evidence for the jurors this morning, and they will begin their deliberations as soon as she is finished.
