Conor McGregor may be switching from the octagon to the ring – if a report out today is to be believed.

It is being reported that the Dublin MMA star will fight Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas this summer.

McGregor was due to headline UFC 200 in the same city in July but, following a very public spat with UFC boss Dana White, will take no part in the event.

Now The Sun are reporting that McGregor will instead take on undefeated boxer Mayweather.

“Floyd went mad after Conor said he would crush him and knock him out in 30 seconds, he’s obsessed with making Conor eat his words,” an unnamed source told the paper.

“Floyd is calling the shots. It’s strictly boxing and Conor will have to lose roughly 25lbs.

“It was agreed in principle on May 2, but Floyd wouldn’t reveal the identity of his opponent until last night when he told friends he’ll be fighting Conor.”

When asked earlier this year if he would seriously consider taking on Mayweather, something he has talked about previously, McGregor said he absolutely would consider it.

“I’m open to that discussion, come at me,” he said.

“I hold the key to the fight game. I am open minded, I am open to discussion. I love competition, I love fighting.

“It would be nice to make that fight if the fans are interested and wanted to see it – and obviously they would.”

However, there has been no confirmation of the fight from any official source and noted MMA commentator Ariel Helwani has dismissed the story online.
