Cork City have moved into second place in the Aitricity League Premier Division after a 2-0 win at Bray Wanderers tonight.
Two goals from Sean Maguire and Karl Sheppard in a four-minute spell halfway through the second half gave the Leesiders the three points at the Carlisle Grounds.
City were slow to get into the game but dominated from the 20th minute when Sheppard came close with a shot from the edge of the Bray penalty area.
However, he managed to set up Maguire on the 67th minute who rifled in a close-range volley from Sheppard’s knock-down and then four minutes later saw his own volley squeeze through Peter Cherrie’s grasp to ensure the points went to Cork.
In Longford, Shamrock Rovers also recorded a 2-0 victory to send them up to fourth in the table.
An own goal from James Mulhall, who was defending a ball smashed across their penalty box by Rovers’ Dean Clarke, and an easy tap-in for Danny North gave the Dublin side the three points.
At the Showgrounds, Sligo Rovers comfortably beat Wexford Youths 4-1.
Raffaele Cretaro opened the scoring for the Bit O’ Red on 23 minutes, with Jordan Richards adding a second on 23 minutes and Liam Martin chipping over the Wexford keeper two minutes before the break.
Danny Furlong pulled one back for Wexford with only four minutes gone in the second half.
Cretaro had another couple of chances to add to his tally before Jaanai Gordon, a half-time substitute for Jordan Richards, headed in a corner for Sligo with seven minutes to go.
