There was a violent incident in the United Soccer League over the weekend, when one player completely lost his head after being shown a red card.
Pittsburgh Riverhounds footballer Romeo Parkes was sent off at the same time as an opponent, Karl Ouimette of the New York Red Bulls.
Ouimette accepted the referee’s decision and turned to walk off the field.
Parkes followed him before launching an incredibly unsporting physical attack – kicking his opponent in the back and knocking him to the ground.

Ouimette had to be stretchered off the field after the attack and Parkes later posted a lengthy apology on Twitter.
He wrote: “To the fans, my teams, the city of PGH, NY Red Bulls 2 and the USL, I recognized that my action was wrong and inappropriate and I sincerely apologize and regret my actions.
“Despite the continuous altercation throughout the game my further action after I was carded Was unwarranted and I ask for my fans, the league and my teammates as well as the New York Red Bulls to accept my sincere apology.”

The apology wasn’t enough for his club, who announced on Sunday afternoon that his contract had been terminated for conduct detrimental to the team and the United Soccer League.
