The Court of Criminal Appeal has overturned a ruling that breathalyser test statements must be printed in both Irish and English.
The initial ruling had held up around 1,400 alleged drink driving prosecutions.
Fianna Fáil’s Transport Spokesperson Timmy Dooley praised the court’s common-sense approach.
“I’m very pleased at the clarity provided by the Court of Appeal,” he said.
“I think it’s a good decision. I think it ensures that up to 1,400 people will not now evade justice on a ridiculous technicality.
“There’s no doubt that drink-driving leads to death and horrendous injury on our roads, and there can be no hiding place for those who are caught in the act.”
