At a time when Government financial support for mental health has been drastically redirected to other more popular spending measures, thousands of people in Gorey have voted with their orange flags and banners, and their unrelenting positivity, as they lined the streets last Friday to welcome almost 800 cyclists on the penultimate stage of the 14-day nationwide Cycle Against Suicide event.

This was a day of flag waving, cheering from the people in the streets, an exceptional demonstration of support, an occasion that ranks alongside the great celebratory days that Gorey has embraced in the past.

The cyclists set out from Wexford town, where they had been given a remarkable reception, travelled the coast road through Blackwater, Kilmuckridge, Riverchapel-Courtown and into Gorey, where thousands of people, of all ages lined the streets, and they were given a wonderful reception, and the organisers were particularly impressed by the colour and the support shown along the way.
