Joan Burton is expected to announce she is resigning as leader of the Labour Party today.

She is due to tell the Labour’s parliamentary party of her decision later.

It follows a disastrous General Election result for the party.

The Deputy leader Alan Kelly and Sean Sherlock look set to put their names forward for the role.

It is understood that Brendan Howlin may stand, but only if his election is uncontested.
