Joey Barton has posted a picture on social media to confirm he has now received his Championship medal.
Barton and teammate James Tarkowski were left empty-handed after the medal ceremony on Monday to celebrate Burnley winning the Sky Bet Championship title.
But the two have now been given their medals, as Barton proved with this post on Instagram.
After 25 members of Burnley’s squad had received their medals ahead of the ceremony, the final two – defender Tarkowski and midefielder Barton – were left empty-handed due to the fact there were none remaining.
“Burnley Football Club would like to apologise for the mix-up during the medal ceremony,” said a statement on the club’s official website.
“The Football League advised the club that 25 medals were to be presented, but the club put forward 27 players.
“We would like apologise to the league for this administrative error. We would like to clarify that all players will receive medals from the Football League.”
Both players had joked about the absence of medals on Twitter after the ceremony.
No medal? What's going on? 😃

It was only banter, as if I'd refuse a Championship winning medal! The ribbon wouldn't fit over my ears so waiting for one with more give!

But the club were still keen to show the players had been given their rightful honours today.
🏅Thanks to @SkyBet and @football_league for these. #Champions pic.twitter.com/LFubVU6aZt
