The sale of captain Mats Hummels to Bayern Munich is set to turn around annual losses standing at almost 21million euros revealed in Borussia Dortmund’s accounts.
Dortmund’s financial results for the third quarter of 2015-16, published before confirmation of the long-awaited deal for Hummels, show a significant increase in revenue but also greater losses.

The Westphalians can also look forward to increased revenue next season having returned to the Champions League, but without the sale of Germany centre-back Hummels they would have been facing an annual loss.
“Borussia Dortmund GmbH & Co. KGaA recorded (third-quarter) earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) of € -9.6m (-£7.5m) and an accumulated amount of € -20.9m (-£16.5m) in the first nine months of the fiscal year 2015-2016,” read a statement from the Bundesliga club.
“With the realisation of anticipated transfer revenues the management expects annual net profits in a double-digit million amount in the individual as well as in the group financial statement for the total fiscal year 2015-2016.”
Dortmund are reported to have earned in the region of €38million (£30m) from the sale of Hummels, whose move to Bayern will go through once he passes a medical.
Other key players have also been linked with moves away, with prolific striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan sure to attract interest.
Dortmund’s figures do, though, show a 34.6 per cent increase in revenue year on year – a figure which is set to increase further with Champions League football next season, having had to settle for the Europa League this term.
