Limerick TD Jan O’Sullivan is considering running for the leadership of the Labour Party.

The former Minister for Education has said she will make up her mind over the weekend about whether she will put her name foward, following the resignation of Joan Burton as leader yesterday.

Brendan Howlin, Alan Kelly and Sean Sherlock are also likely to contest a leadership battle.

Speaking to Live 95 in Limerick this afternoon, Mrs O’Sullivan has said she believes she has support of many deputies.

“I think all four of us have been asked by various sectors of the party to consider running.

“I mean I would be getting regular emails, texts and phone calls saying I should run.

“I don’t think I would have any trouble getting a seconder and a proposer, should I make that decision within the parliamentary party.”
