LOCAL PRIMARY school Scoil Réalt na Mara in Kilmore has been revealed as a winner of not one, but two awards at the 2016 Bord Gáis Energy Student Theatre Awards.

The winners were announced at a special awards ceremony at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre recently.

The primary school was awarded top honours in the Best Overall School Musical category (primary school) for its production of ‘The Lion King Junior’. The judges were blown away by the musical, saying it was hard to believe that it was a primary school level production. They praised the involvement of every cast member as years ahead of their time.

Caoimhe Troy from sixth class in the school was also awarded the top prize in the Best Female Performance in a Leading Role (primary school) for her performance as Rafiki in the ‘The Lion King Junior’.

The judges praised Caoimhe for her subtlety of acting and said that her natural presence came through and she truly shone on stage.

The school also took to the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre stage to perform a music number from the production at the awards ceremony.
