Workers at 70 Tesco stores around the country have agreed to suspend their planned strike after their union Mandate and management at Tesco agreed to attend talks.

The pickets were due to be placed on outlets from 7am on Monday, May 16, as a result of the company implementing pay cuts and changes to conditions of employment for up to 300 of their staff.

However, the Tesco stores will be open that day and the Workplace Relations Commission will host the talks next Wednesday.

Tesco had opened a voluntary redundancy scheme and had deferred reductions in pay and conditions until May 16.

The supermarket giant said it will defer the plan to implement the proposed changes.
