He impressed Rory McIlroy and now he is winning all around him, writes Mark Woods.
Young sensation Sean Reddy from Ballyvolane in Cork City is making a huge name for himself in the world of golf.
The nine year-old, who came to the attention of the sporting world last year when spotted by Nike’s golf team, and brought to London to meet Rory McIlroy, continues to dominate golf events he plays in, despite competing against players 6-7 years older than him.
The Manchester United fanatic plays on the Junior Tour in Ireland but regularly has to travel north to find competitions to play in with dad Simon.
Sean was the centre of attention following his exploits in a recent skills tournament in Ballykisteen GC.
Sean represented Fota GC in a three-man team where they were tested on pitching, putting and driving.
He won the putting section by finding the bottom of the cup with all six attempts, two each from three, six and nine feet.
“The European Tour picked out Sean for what’s called their trophy tour, so the trophy came to Cork yesterday,” explained his dad, Simon.
Next week Sean and some of the other pupils are going to the Pro-Am on the Wednesday.
“Basically, they’ll just soak it all up and hit shots in this special tent. Sean is also getting a VIP tour to meet the players.
“And the night before we’ve been invited to a charity function in Dublin’s Convention Centre where Rory and Alex Ferguson will be attending,” Simon added.
