A pensioner has died in a road accident in Gortnahoe near Thurles, Co Tipperary this morning.
The 78-year-old man was fatally injured when the car he was driving left the roadway and struck concrete pier on a local road at around 11.30am.
The man, who was the sole occupant of the car, was treated at the scene by emergency services, but he died a short time later.
His body was removed to University Hospital Waterford for a post-mortem examination.
The road is closed and local diversions are in place. Garda forensic collision investigators are at the scene.
The coroner has been notified.
