Lewis Hamilton fought back from adversity to claim pole for Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix with an emphatic lap in the closing moments of qualifying.

The Briton, who is on a seven-race losing streak, made an error on his first timed run to hand the advantage to his Mercedes team-mate and championship rival Nico Rosberg.

But Hamilton returned to the track, with all the talent that his three world titles suggest, to post a storming time and claim his first pole since the second round of the season in Bahrain.

He will be joined on the front row by Rosberg, winner of every race so far this season, with the Red Bull of Daniel Ricciardo third on the grid.
