The former Tánaiste Joan Burton does not think the new Programme for Government looks after the vulnerable in society.

Burton has said as the economy recovers, the new Government should be planning to do more to support people on low and middle incomes.

The Labour leader also said she was disappointed with the lack of clarity in the document produced by Fine Gael and Independent TDs.

Deputy Burton has said more needs to done to protect the less well-off in society.

“As Ireland continues to enjoy economic progress, the fruits of the economic progress should be shared particularly among people on low and middle incomes,” said Burton.

“That should be the abiding principal. I’m sure how heavy committed the program is to that.”
