A man in his 40s has been hospitalised after swimming off the coast of Dublin this evening.

He was located near Dalkey Sound just after 5pm.

The man was attempting to swim out to Dalkey Island when he was rescued by the coast guard.

He was transferred by ambulance to hospital suffering from mild hypothermia.
