The RNLI Lifeboat was launched in Galway this afternoon – over fears some boats were dangerously close to swimmers off Salthill promenade.

The alarm was raised by a member of the public who contacted Gardai.

The Lifeboat crew then spoke to the owners of the vessels and reminded them to keep a safe distance, from the swimming areas.

The RNLI volunteers were later called out to tow a boat that got into difficulty.
