Skellig Michael will re-open to visitors today following recent works to repair rockfall damage.

Weather conditions over the past three years are thought to be the cause of the recent rock falls.

The island has recently gained global fame after appearing in the ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ film.

It is expected that the tourist location will have one of the busiest seasons in years, weather permitting.

The OPW has said that assuming there are no further incidents, it expects the UNESCO World Heritage Site will remain open until the October 2.
