A motorcyclist in his mid 30s was killed in a single vehicle crash in County Kerry last night.

The incident happened near the village of Ballyheigue in north Kerry.

The man appears to have lost control of his motorcycle and crashed at a grotto, about two miles outside the village.

He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 7pm.

A post mortem examination will be carried out at University Hospital Kerry in Tralee.

The road linking Tarbert and Tralee remains closed for a forensic examination.
