Shane Lowry didn’t win the day at the Players Championship yesterday, but he was too busy celebrating the GAA results to care.
The likeable Offaly golfer put himself right in contention with a record-breaking back nine on the opening day, but had to settle for a share of 16th place in the end.
But for Lowry, the most important result yesterday was the one in O’Connor Park – where Offaly recorded their first Leinster championship victory since 2007.
The Faithful County beat Longford 2-21 to 2-13, with goals from Graham Guilfoyle and Niall Smith.

Who needs a Player’s Championship (prize money $1.89 million) when you’ve got a Leinster win to celebrate?
