Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams has today called on the British Government to release all files on the Dublin and Monaghan bombings.

Today is the 42nd anniversary of the four blasts which killed 33 people, including a woman who was nine months’ pregnant.

Mr Adams also said that it is vital the new Irish Government lives up to the need to ensure the utmost pressure is put on the British administration to release their files.

“I want to extend my continued sympathy to the survivors and loved ones of the victims of the Dublin and Monaghan bombings forty-two years ago today, which resulted in the highest number of deaths and casualties during the course of the conflict,” said Adams.

“I also want to commend the continued work of the ‘Justice for the Forgotten’ group and the vital support they give to the victims and families.

“I would again call on the British Government to release all information it holds associated with the bombings, and to assist the families in ensuring that justice is pursued and delivered.

“The new Programme for Government contains a commitment to pursue the implementation of Dáil motions relating to the 1974 Dublin and Monaghan bombings, and it is vital that the new Government lives up to the need to ensure the upmost pressure is put on the British administration to release their files.”
