COOPERATION BETWEEN three safety and rescue organisations resulted in the saving of a life off Ferrybank on Wednesday evening last.
Shortly after 8 p.m. a person entered the water near Ferrybank. Wexford Marine Watch quickly summoned assistance from the Irish Coast Guard, who alerted Wexford RNLI and tragedy was averted.
Assisted by members of the public, the casualty was kept under close observation by Marine Watch volunteers until the Lifeboat arrived and was then treated for cold water shock by the RNLI before being transferred to hospital by Ambulance.
A spokesperson for Marine Watch said: “The ongoing training that we do with the RNLI was put to good use last night and this rescue was a perfect example of how both services work hand in hand with good communication between organisations and the Emergency Services.”
If you see someone in difficulty in or near the water, dial 112/999 and ask for the Coast Guard.
