The Tánaiste and Justice Minister says she “fully supports” the Garda Commissioner – but again stopped short of stating her confidence in her.

Frances Fitzgerald was asked again this morning about the Commissioner’s legal strategy against whistleblower Maurice McCabe.

Yesterday the Taoiseach said he had full confidence in Noirin O’Sullivan – something the Tánaiste has yet to do herself.

In the Dáil this morning Frances Fitzgerald again said she expected the Commissioner to give public details about her legal strategy, as long as it’s legal to do so: “I said yesterday that I believe the Garda Commissioner where it was feasible and legal for her to put further information in the public arena that I would have no doubt that she would do so.

“I fully support the Commissioner in the difficult job she is doing and I am confident that our discussions will help lead to addressing the concerns.”
