A woman has died in a house fire in Cork city.

Emergency services were alerted to the blaze in an estate the Bishopstown area shortly after 6pm.

Neighbours raised the alarm after seeing smoke coming from the house.

A woman in her 60s was pulled from the house, but was pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency services remain at the scene and a full technical examination will be carried out when the scene is deemed safe.

A post mortem will also be carried out on the woman’s body.

The results of the examinations will determine the course of the Garda investigation.
