There have been calls for a dedicated task force to clamp down on gangland violence in Dublin.

It follows the latest shooting in the city yesterday morning which saw two people injured.

Shots were fired through the window of a house in the Cherry Orchard area of Ballyfermot at about twenty 1.40am.

A man and woman both in their 30s suffered minor injuries in the incident. They were taken to St James’ Hospital and it is understood that they have since been discharged.

A forensic examination of the scene was carried out and Gardaí are appealing for witnesses.

Local Sinn Féin Councillor Daithí Doolan said that the latest attack has left local residents terrified.

“I’m actually horrified,” he said.

“I was up there yesterday morning, on Saturday morning, myself, hearing people’s concerns, and people are terrified that a peaceful community with young families and they feel under threat that this community is now being dragged into the ongoing feud in Dublin.

“It’s unacceptable and I’ve made an appeal, and I’d reiterate it to Minister Frances Fitzgerald – please prioritise tackling the gun crime in this city, and also ensure that gardaí have all the recourses that they need.”
