With just three weeks to go until the Rep. of Ireland’s Euro 2016 opening game against Sweden in Paris, the official Rep of Ireland Euro 2016 song has been released.

Called ‘The Irish Roar’, the song is by the Coláiste Lurgan band Seo Linn.

They were chosen ahead of a huge number of interested bands and artists to write and perform the Official Rep of Ireland Euro 2016 song after Football Association of Ireland CEO John Delaney saw the band perform at RTÉ’s Easter Rising musical commemoration ‘Centenary’.

Lead singer and Stiofán O Fearail said that he was shocked when they was asked to do the sing.

“I honestly could not believe what I was hearing, but John had absolute faith in us to come up with a song, which he said should be an uplifting piece for the team as they head to the European Championship tournament,” he said.

“For us this is unbelievable, to play some part in Irish sporting history, and to have our song heard by millions of Irish supporters around the world.”

Written and produced by Seo Linn and James Darkin, it commemorates the stirring memories of the Irish team over the past 26 years and features a special tribute to the late, great and ultimate football man, Bill O’Herlihy.

‘The Irish Roar’ will be performed live for the first time by Seo Linn at next Friday’s friendly against Netherlands in the Aviva Stadium.

“This is a distinctively Irish song for the Rep. of Irish team as they go to France to make the nation proud,” Delaney said. “I look forward to hearing The Irish Roar live at the Aviva in front of our great supporters at the Holland game on Friday night.”

‘The Irish Roar’ will be available to download through iTunes and Google Play from May 27.

Proceeds from sales of the song will go towards the John Giles Foundation and The Capuchin Day Centre.
