Government Ministers will this morning consider a proposal to set up an all-party committee to plan the future of the health service.
The motion was proposed by 89 Opposition TDs and an amended version will be brought to this morning’s Cabinet meeting.
The motion would establish a committee which would report within six months and devise a 10-year plan to improve the health service.
It is understood that Health Minister Simon Harris is supportive of the plan.
The motion has already been supported by a majority of TDs in the Dáil, including Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin.
