SPECULATION IS mounting in Enniscorthy as to the identity of the lucky winner who scooped a prize of half a million euro on the National Lottery.
The winning ticket was sold at The Kiosk Shop in The Abbey Shopping Centre on Thursday and the lucky winner is, as of yet, still unidentified. The owner of the shop Sarah Masterson says that she has no idea who the winner is and that she may never find out.
“I got the call on Friday evening and I was sick in bed,” she told The Echo. “On Saturday morning then I had a text from the rep asking me to ring him urgently. I knew then what must’ve happened. When I rang him back, he told me that the €500k ticket had been sold on Thursday, but obviously he couldn’t tell me what time or anything like that for security reasons. I have no idea who the winner is and it’s a possibility that I may never know. Whoever it is though, I wish them the best of luck with it.”
Sarah says that there has been great interest locally as people began to try and establish who might be the lucky person or persons who are set to pick up the big windfall. While some whispers have stated that the ticket was sold to an outsider who was visiting the town, nobody knows and the Chinese whispers continue.
This is not the first time that The Kiosk Shop has proved lucky for someone either. Back in 2014 a syndicate of 17 nurses from Wexford General Hospital managed to scoop a jackpot of nearly €2.9million having purchased a ticket in the shop at the top of the mall. Sarah also says that another customer recently scooped a prize of €10,000 on Telly Bingo having purchased their book there.
“It’s great for the shop,” she said. “We’ve had a lot of people in talking about it and although we may never know their identity, we wish the winners all the very best.”
With it’s reputation as a lucky location now increased, The Kiosk Shop will surely be welcoming more Lotto players in the coming weeks who are chasing that big cash prize!
