The rumours surrounding Conor McGregor’s next potential fight continue to carry on, writes Ciaran O’Flynn.
A rematch with Nate Diaz is one option, but a mega showdown with the undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather has also been rumoured, so much so Fox Sports yesterday reported a September fight at the T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas has already been discussed by both parties.
However sources close to McGregor have told me no fight has been agreed and they are still weighing up their options.
McGregor met with UFC president Dana White last week for clear the air talks after McGregor was pulled from UFC 200 for not fulfilling media obligations. McGregor’s next opponent was also the topic of conversation, with Nate Diaz and UFC 202 on the cards.
Dana White then flew to California to meet with Nate Diaz to discuss the rematch. It is thought the meeting did not end well with Diaz asking for money than offered by the UFC for the rematch.
After defeating McGregor at UFC 196 and with McGregor pushing for the rematch Diaz believes he deserves a bigger payday and rightly so.
It is believed the rematch will be made sooner rather than later with all parties keen for it to happen.
The rumours on a fight between McGregor and Mayweather just don’t seem to go
away with both fighters constantly adding fuel to the fire. The rumours were originally started by Mayweather himself, with McGregor adding to the fire by admitting he would be more than willing to fight the 49-0 boxer.

But McGregor is under contract with the UFC so if he were to fight Mayweather the UFC would have to allow him out of contract or they would have to be involved in the promotion of the fight. Secondly, the only benefit of this fight for McGregor would be a very large payday with some people estimating both fighters could earn a 100-million-dollar payday.
A rematch with Nate Diaz seems the most likely bout. Despite Diaz being unhappy with money offered to him – it’s just a matter of time before the UFC give him what he wants and we see McGregor vs Diaz 2.
