President Michael D Higgins will tackle the issue of gender-based violence today when he makes his second speech at the first ever Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul.

The two-day meeting of global leaders is brainstorming ideas to help solve current humanitarian problems.

Yesterday our President warned the UN needs to take decisive action on poverty, war, migration and climate change.

More than 60 million people are currently displaced due to conflict, while 125 million are in need of humanitarian assistance around the world.
