The jury in a conspiracy to defraud trial has been told to suspend its deliberations until Monday – because a juror has been hospitalised.

Four former bankers are accused of taking part in a dishonest €7.2bn scheme aimed at misleading the public about Anglo Irish Bank in 2008.

Today was to be the seventh day of deliberations.

So far, they have spent over 25 hours in the jury room considering all the evidence against the four accused: Denis Casey and Peter Fitzpatrick – formerly of Irish Life & Permanent, and former Anglo bankers Willie McAteer and John Bowe.

They are alleged to have taken part in a dishonest scheme with a view to misleading the public about the state of Anglo Irish Bank in 2008.

Deliberations were suspended on Monday after a female juror became unwell.

She was back in court yesterday but this morning, a note was passed to Judge Martin Nolan to tell him she has since been taken into hospital.

The court heard she sent a text to say she’s hoping to be back on Monday so the trial was put back until then.
