Kellie Harrington is a World silver medallist, after losing her World championship final in Astana.

The 26-year-old Dubliner fought bravely against China’s Yang Wenlu, but lost on a split decision.

Harrington was only the second ever Irish female boxer to fight for a gold medal at a World Championship, after Katie Taylor.

Taylor was beaten in her semi-final yesterday, denying her the opportunity to fight for an unprecedented sixth gold medal. She did however book her place at the Rio Olympics.

Harrington will not compete in Rio this summer, as her women’s light welterweight class in not included.
