A man has died after being struck by a car in Co. Kerry.

The man, who was walking on the (R551) Tralee to Ardfert road at Ballyroe was struck by a car at around 8.35am this morning.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Emergency Services, and his body was removed to Tralee General Hospital where a post-mortem examination will be carried out.

The driver of the car, a 20 year-old man, was not injured.

Gardaí have carried out a forensic examination of the scene and the road has since reopened to traffic.
